How to Cook Spaghetti Squash in the Oven or Microwave
We’re Adam and Joanne from inspiredtaste.netand welcome to our kitchen.
We’re showing you how to cut and cook spaghettisquash — both in the oven and quickly in
the microwave.
Before we cook it, we need to cut it.
Use a dish towel to stop the squash from slippingaround on your cutting board then grab a heavy
knife and carefully plunge it into the squash.
We like to make a few cuts on all sides ofthe squash until we feel like we can pull
it apart.
See how we stopped just before the stem?
Don’t try to cut through that — it’stoo tough.
Instead, pull the two halves apart.
Then simply remove the seeds.
We’re going to roast this squash, so drizzlea little olive oil over the cut side then
season with salt, pepper and any seasoningsyou love.
Place the halves cut-side down onto a bakingsheet and if you want, sneak a few fresh herbs
underneath.
Roast the squash in the oven until you caneasily pierce it with a fork — in a 375
degree oven - you are looking at 40 to 50minutes.
Here’s another way to cut spaghetti squash— instead of making boat shaped halves,
you can just cut straight down the middle.
Remember, use a towel to keep it steady.
Then remove the seeds from the squash.
By the way, cutting the squash this way willmake longer spaghetti-like strands than the
boat method since the strands go around thesquash in a circular pattern.
It’s also a little easier to do.
You could roast this or use your microwave.
Season the inside of the squash with oliveoil, salt and pepper then place cut side down
into a microwave safe dish.
Add about an inch of water to the bottom ofthe dish then microwave until easily pierced
with a knife.
We start with 5 minutes and go up from there.
As for serving spaghetti squash, here aretwo simple ways:
Add a drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepperto the squash then top with fresh herbs.
Or, mix in some butter and top with freshlygrated cheese.
